Fanta was created by the German branch of Coca-Cola during World War II. Due to the war, the German branch of the company couldn't get the concentrate for Coca-Cola and needed to find alternative ingredients for production. The main components of the new flavor were apple pomace (waste from cider production) and whey (a byproduct of cheese-making). The resulting beverage was yellow and significantly different in taste from the orange Fanta, which is now the most widespread and available in 160 countries worldwide.
