Perhaps one of the most popular salads in the world is Caesar salad. Here are some interesting facts about it: The salad is named after its inventor, Caesar Cardini (an American chef of Italian descent). In 1920-40, he owned several restaurants in the Mexican city of Tijuana, where the Caesar salad was created. Initially, it was meant to be eaten with hands, not utensils. The inventor's brother Alex Cardini added anchovies to the salad and called it the "Aviator's Salad" (because he served as a military pilot). In 1953, in Paris, Caesar salad was recognized as "the best recipe to appear in America in the last 50 years". There was neither chicken nor mayonnaise in the classic Caesar salad.
